So I'm recovering from a nasty batch of food poisoning; thanks, really fancy restaurant that shall go unnamed. I needed to eat something for dinner, but I didn't want to tax my stomach too much. What to do? About the gentlest thing we had was ramen noodles. Now, I tend to stay away from these because I can't stand the salty packet of flavored bouillon that comes with the noodles. So I decided to throw it out. I looked at the ingredients list and noted everything that sounded like real food; soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, onion powder. Then I assembled that from the pantry, cooked the noodles in some beef broth I had in the freezer (boiled for two minutes first, of course; I don't need a repeat of last night) and mixed in the spices and an egg. Delicious! I see no reason to cook ramen with the spice packet ever again.
